RUIZLAB

RUIZLAB branding project â€‹

Ruiz Lab is the name that I decided to present my portfolio: It represents experiments and development of ideas for design solutions, evokes memories of experiences and curiosity in different types of media, and my goal of constant evolution and learning. From this concept, I wanted to express into the branding a sense of balance, creativity and experimentation (colors that refer to these ideas, for example) and lightness!

My work with creation is all about image: Photography, graphic design, fashion. So I proceeded with the idea of investigating a little more deeply about the light itself. Despite being called "RuizLab", I didn't want it to have literally a laboratory image; the photon - particle/wave that "composes" the light - was my starting point for the logo design!

The symbol is formed by a photon particle (the star icon) moving towards space, leaving behind a flare (common in photographs, for example) to, who knows, be captured for one's eyes! If read in reverse, it also gives the idea that the star itself releases the light/photons (flare) that will reach our eyes, so we can see the world around us!

RUIZLAB BRANDING PROCESS

"RuizLab" 's typography was written by me on a tablet (to add to the concept of experimenting with different types of media and ways of creating art) and the auxiliary font conveys modernity and lightness.

Blue, yellow and turquoise tones: In color psychology, they convey optimism, joy, creativity, curiosity, positivity!

The process of creating the branding took me weeks! As opposed to what I already got used to (knowing all the information about the client or the brand to develop the requested art or visual identity and participate in the process as "the person who sees it from the other side"), the creation to represent my own portfolio/the visuals that represented me was a different challenge.

The colors and concepts I could build easily, but the development of the logo itself was more complex and time consuming. When researching for the moodboard, I could find many ideas about light, discovery and experiments: Beams of light and many references to space and stars! I did some pencil sketches, and after several attempts, I developed this final sketch that also worked digitally, with balance and lightly conveying the concept I intended!

For this step of the proccess, I was inspired by this famous quote:

“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.” - Pablo Picasso.

Construction of most elements using the Fibonacci Sequence's circles for a balanced flow, but the star breaks this rule, being the element of singularity both graphic, visually and literally.

The symbol uses circles (Fibonacci's sequence) and it's surrounded by a circle itself, as this figure refers to positivity, unity, community.

MOCKUPS

Some mockups exemplifying the adaptation of the logo and branding to products and platforms, chosen in order to facilitate and enrich a working day for a photographer/designer, for example, since it was aimed at a professional in this area. I really like the glassmorphism trend (glass effect) and as the theme is about light, space, modernity and lightness - and as the glass permits the light to reach the eyes through its transparency - I developed some examples of mockups in this graphic style.

☆ Creative process sum up: Concept of Light/photon >> Concepts Research >> Image Research (moodboard) >> Graphic reproduction in software >> Application in digital examples/mockups.

☆ Impact: With this project I hope you get to know a little about my designing process! If somehow I managed to positively impact you, the whole process and work was worth it for me for thousands of light years!
